Boston Marathon in Boston
The Boston Marathon is the world's oldest annual marathon, run continuously since 1897 on Patriots' Day, the third Monday of April, across eight cities and towns from Hopkinton to Boston's Copley Square. Inspired by the 1896 Athens Olympics marathon, the race is organized by the Boston Athletic Association and ranks among the seven World Marathon Majors alongside London, Berlin, Chicago, Tokyo, Sydney, and New York City.
The Boston Marathon's roots trace directly to the revival of the modern Olympic Games.
