Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion is a three-day Americana music festival held each September in historic downtown Bristol, straddling the Virginia-Tennessee state line. Founded in 2001, it honors Bristol's status as the birthplace of country music, tracing back to the 1927 Bristol Sessions recordings that first captured Appalachian roots musicians for a national audience.

Bristol sits on the border of Virginia and Tennessee, split down the middle by State Street, and it was here in the summer of 1927 that record producer Ralph Peer set up a temporary studio and recorded a cluster of then-unknown Appalachian musicians, including the Carter Family and Jimmie Rodgers.
