U.S. National Toboggan Championships in Camden
The U. Crews load one-, two-, three- or four-person wooden toboggans, launch down the iced channel and slide onto the pond, while costume, team identity and timed competition share the weekend. The recurring practices—team racing by rider-count division, costumed toboggan crews, and finish onto frozen Hosmer Pond—tie the public program to the place and the people who sustain it.
A wooden sled disappears into Camden's 400-foot ice chute and bursts onto frozen Hosmer Pond carrying helmets, costumes and several seconds of barely controlled speed.
