The story

Tour of the Scioto River Valley in Columbus

TOSRV, the Tour of the Scioto River Valley, is a non-competitive two-day bicycle ride held on Mother's Day weekend between Columbus and Portsmouth, Ohio. Begun in 1962 as a father-and-son outing, it grew into one of the largest organized bicycle touring weekends in the country, covering 210 miles round trip along the Scioto River.

Its endurance cycling history makes it a solid sports/adventure row.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

TOSRV's significance comes from its age and scale within American cycling culture: founded in 1962, it predates most of the country's organized recreational cycling movement and is widely credited as one of the events that helped popularize long-distance group touring in the United States

02

The mystery stays covered

The route itself, tracing the Scioto River valley south from Columbus to the Ohio River town of Portsmouth and back, was chosen specifically to avoid the steep hills of southern Ohio, keeping the ride accessible to a wide range of ability levels despite its 210-mile total distance

03

The city starts moving

About 3,000 cyclists participate each year, riding 105 miles per day with an overnight stay in Portsmouth, a format that has remained essentially unchanged for six decades and has made TOSRV a rite of passage for generations of cyclists
