Damascus Trail Days in Damascus
Damascus Trail Days, formally the Appalachian Trail Days Festival, is the largest annual celebration of Appalachian Trail hiking culture, held every May in Damascus, Virginia, the weekend after Mother's Day. The small mountain town swells to roughly 25,000 attendees for a reunion of thru-hikers, live music, a hiker parade, and more than a hundred outdoor gear and handmade goods vendors.
Damascus, Virginia, occupies a distinctive position along the Appalachian Trail, sitting directly on the footpath's route through southwestern Virginia and earning a reputation among long-distance hikers as one of the most welcoming trail towns on the entire 2,000-plus mile route.
