Elkhart Jazz Festival in Elkhart
A multi-day jazz festival held each June across downtown Elkhart, Indiana, since 1988. More than 100 performers draw roughly 20,000 attendees, staffed almost entirely by an unusually large corps of more than 200 volunteers. Marketed under the tagline The City with a Heart, the festival remains a defining point of civic pride each June.
Elkhart, Indiana, has manufactured band instruments for well over a century, a concentration of craft and industry substantial enough to earn the city its nickname, the Band Instrument Capital of the World, with nearly 2,000 skilled workers employed in instrument-making locally.
