Started by Farmville community members in 1979, the Heart of Virginia Festival closes Main and High Streets in downtown Farmville, Virginia for a day of local crafts, live music, food vendors, and children's activities. Now in its fifth decade, the volunteer-run event remains a showcase specifically for Southside Virginia's arts and small-town community life.

Farmville community members organized the first Heart of Virginia Festival in 1979 to give their small Southside Virginia town a showcase for its arts, crafts, and music, and the event has returned to the same downtown streets nearly every year since.
