Old Fiddlers Convention in Galax
The Old Fiddlers Convention in Galax, Virginia, began in the spring of 1935 as a fundraiser organized by the local Moose Lodge and has grown into the oldest and largest continuous competition of its kind in the United States. Held every August at Felts Park in the heart of Appalachian mountain music country, the week-long event draws around 30,000 musicians, singers, and fans, along with hundreds of RVs.
The Old Fiddlers Convention began in the spring of 1935, organized by members of the then-newly formed Moose Lodge #733 in Galax, Virginia, who needed a fundraising and publicity event for their young organization.
