Podunk Bluegrass Festival in Goshen

Podunk Bluegrass Festival is Connecticut's only multi-day bluegrass festival, running each August at the Goshen Fairgrounds in the Litchfield Hills after stops in East Hartford, Norwich, and Hebron since its 1996 founding. Named for an Algonquian word describing a junction of rivers, and for a Podunk village once located along the Hockanum River, it pairs national touring acts with round-the-clock campground jam sessions, a band competition, and a Thursday Veterans Appreciation Day.

The word Podunk gets thrown around as a punchline for anywhere small and out of the way, but it started as an Algonquian term for a junction of streams, and it was also the actual name of a Native American village and people who lived along the Hockanum River on the east side of the Connecticut River, in what is now South Windsor and East Hartford.
