The story

National Balloon Classic in Indianola

National Balloon Classic is a nine-day hot air balloon festival at Memorial Balloon Field in Indianola, running late July into early August since 1989. Grown out of Indianola's earlier role hosting the U.S. National Hot Air Balloon Championships, it draws nearly 100 balloons and more than 85,000 guests for twice-daily ascensions and nighttime Nite Glow displays.

National Balloon Classic traces its roots to 1970, when Indianola hosted a preliminary competition tied to the U.S.
