The story

Hard Summer in Inglewood

Hard Summer is an annual electronic and hip-hop music festival launched in 2008 by Gary Richards' Hard events brand, now produced by Insomniac Events. After moving between more than a dozen Southern California venues over the years, including Fontana's Auto Club Speedway and San Bernardino's NOS Events Center, the festival relocated to SoFi Stadium in Inglewood beginning in 2024.

Its large-scale dance-music audience and Los Angeles setting make it a major event.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Few American music festivals have changed venues as often as Hard Summer, a history that tells the story of Southern California's shifting relationship with large-scale electronic events: shut down by fire marshals at the Forum in 2009, relocated to Los Angeles State Historic Park for five years, then to Whittier Narrows, the Fairplex in Pomona, Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, and San Bernardino's NOS Events Center, before landing at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood in 2024, the first time in years a major Insomniac event returned to Los Angeles proper

02

The mystery stays covered

That venue history reflects both the festival's growth, drawing crowds near 146,000 in its 2016 Fontana edition, and the challenges large electronic festivals face with noise complaints and permitting
