The story

Livingston Roundup Rodeo in Livingston

The Livingston Roundup Rodeo is Montana's oldest rodeo, held around the Fourth of July at the Park County Fairgrounds in Livingston, the first gateway town to Yellowstone National Park. Run by the volunteer Livingston Roundup Association, it is a Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association and Women's Professional Rodeo Association event that has drawn sell-out crowds across more than a century, pairing top PRCA competitors with small-town Montana hospitality.

Livingston built its rodeo the way it built the rest of the town: around the railroad, the ranching country of the upper Yellowstone valley, and the steady flow of visitors heading south to the park.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Livingston has staged its rodeo for over a hundred years, into what organizers now bill as the rodeo's second century, making it the longest-running rodeo in Montana and a fixture of the town's identity as the historic railway gateway to Yellowstone

02

The mystery stays covered

The Livingston Roundup Association is an all-volunteer, community-run patriotic organization, and residents fill nearly every role, from working concessions and gates to prepping the arena and stock, which gives the event a homegrown character distinct from larger commercial rodeo circuits

03

The city starts moving

A rodeo queen program, including Miss Livingston Roundup, Miss Teen Livingston Roundup, and a Little Miss contest for young girls, keeps a multigenerational western tradition alive, while the Tough Enough to Wear Pink night ties the rodeo to local cancer-support fundraising each year around July 3rd
