Kentucky Derby Festival in Louisville
The Kentucky Derby Festival is a two-week civic celebration in Louisville, Kentucky, held in the lead-up to the Kentucky Derby's first Saturday in May, and stands as the state's largest single annual event. First organized from 1935 to 1937 and revived in 1956, it includes signature events such as Thunder Over Louisville, the Great Steamboat Race, and the Pegasus Parade.
The Kentucky Derby itself has run continuously since 1875, but the broader Kentucky Derby Festival built around it has a more interrupted history.
