The story

Snake River Stampede in Nampa

One of the oldest professional rodeos in the country, the Snake River Stampede has run in Nampa, Idaho since 1913, when it began as a bucking contest at a local harvest festival. Inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in 2014, the five-day PRCA rodeo moved from its traditional July date to June starting in 2025.

The Snake River Stampede began in 1913 as an informal bucking contest, part of Nampa, Idaho's autumn harvest festival known as the Rodeo and Buck Show, staged on ground where the Nampa Post Office now sits, with no bleachers and only a rope to mark the arena.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

The Snake River Stampede traces back to 1913, when it began as an informal bucking contest attached to Nampa's autumn harvest festival, roped off with no bleachers

02

The mystery stays covered

It broke away from that harvest festival in 1937, moved to summer, and joined the Cowboys' Turtle Association, the precursor of today's PRCA, taking its current name from rodeo director Ike Corlett over other contenders like Ski-Hi Rodeo

03

The city starts moving

Halftime entertainment historically featured genuine star power, Gene Autry, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, and later Reba McEntire, Glen Campbell, and Barbara Mandrell, and the rodeo has weathered hiatuses during both World Wars and the COVID-19 pandemic

04

The water draws everyone in

Recognized by the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in 2014 as one of the sport's premier events, it shifted from its traditional July slot to June starting in 2025
