Bayou Classic in New Orleans

The Bayou Classic is an annual college football rivalry game between Grambling State University and Southern University, first played in 1974 and held most years at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. Held around Thanksgiving weekend, the game is accompanied by a battle of the bands and a full weekend of HBCU culture and celebration.

Grambling State University and Southern University, two of Louisiana's most storied historically Black colleges and universities, first met on the football field in a game billed as the Bayou Classic in 1974, played that inaugural year at Tulane Stadium.
