French Quarter Festival in New Orleans
French Quarter Festival is a free, four-day music festival held each April in the historic French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana. Founded in 1983 and first held in 1984, it showcases local jazz, blues, zydeco, brass, and other New Orleans music genres across more than 20 stages, alongside food from dozens of area restaurants.
New Orleans has never lacked for musicians, but in the early 1980s, city leaders recognized that the depth of local talent, jazz players, brass bands, gospel choirs, zydeco accordionists, deserved a dedicated citywide showcase of its own.
