Newport Classical Music Festival

Newport Classical, previously known as the Newport Music Festival, is an annual chamber-music-oriented festival and year-round classical music organization based in Newport, Rhode Island. Founded in the late 1960s, it presents concerts inside several of Newport's historic Gilded Age mansions alongside its broader classical programming.

Newport's Gilded Age mansions were built in the late nineteenth century by some of America's wealthiest industrial families as summer cottages, a euphemism for what were in fact enormous, ornately decorated estates along Bellevue Avenue, and those families often hosted private musical performances within their grand ballrooms and drawing rooms as part of the era's high-society social calendar.
