Tulip Time Festival in Pella

Tulip Time Festival is a three-day Dutch-heritage celebration in downtown Pella, honoring the town's 1847 founding by Dutch immigrants. Running since 1935 and drawing more than 200,000 visitors each early May, it features twice-daily parades, klompen wooden-shoe dancing, a Dutch craft market, and a signature street-scrubbing ritual ahead of the Tulip Queen's court.

Tulip Time Festival began in 1935, in the depths of the Great Depression, when local businessman Lon Wormhoudt and Central College president Irwin Lubbers worked through the Pella Chamber of Commerce to organize a celebration built around a locally written operetta honoring the town's Dutch heritage.
