Maine Marathon in Portland
The Maine Marathon is Portland, Maine's largest marathon, held annually on the first Sunday in October since 1992, evolved from the earlier Casco Bay Marathon, run from 1978 to 1987. It offers a full marathon, half marathon, and marathon relay on an out-and-back course along Portland's Back Cove, up the coast through Falmouth and Cumberland to a turnaround in Yarmouth.
The Maine Marathon traces its roots to the Casco Bay Marathon, which ran from 1978 through 1987 along Portland's coastal edge before the event was reorganized and re-launched as the Maine Marathon in 1992.
