Dominion Energy Riverrock in Richmond
Dominion Energy Riverrock is a multi-day outdoor sports and music festival held each May along Richmond's downtown James River corridor, drawing over 100,000 attendees in its 18th year. Organized by Venture Richmond and Sports Backers, the free event features more than 30 participatory activities including trail running, mountain biking, kayaking, SUP, skimboarding, and riverside yoga, alongside live music.
Dominion Energy Riverrock was created to solve a specific civic problem: Richmond possessed a genuinely rare downtown amenity, class III and IV whitewater rapids running through the James River within walking distance of the city's core, along with an expanding network of urban trails, but relatively few residents or visitors were using either.
