Richmond Folk Festival in Richmond
The Richmond Folk Festival is a free, three-day celebration of American and global roots music, dance, crafts, and storytelling held each October along the James River downtown. Growing out of Richmond's 2005-2007 hosting of the National Folk Festival, the event has run independently since 2008 and now draws roughly 200,000 attendees to six stages featuring more than 30 performing groups.
The Richmond Folk Festival's origins lie in the National Folk Festival, a touring event produced by the National Council for the Traditional Arts that selects a different host city every few years to showcase the full breadth of American and international folk traditions.
