Santa Fe International Folk Art Market in Santa Fe

The Santa Fe International Folk Art Market is an annual juried market held one weekend in July, now at Santa Fe Railyard Park, where folk artists from dozens of countries sell handmade textiles, ceramics, baskets, and sculpture directly to the public. Founded in 2004 by Judith Espinar with Thomas Aageson, Charlene Cerny, and Charmay Allred, it has grown from 60 founding artists into one of the largest folk art markets in the world, with roughly 1,400 volunteers powering the event each year.

In 2004, a Santa Fe businesswoman named Judith Espinar teamed up with Thomas Aageson of the Museum of New Mexico Foundation, former Museum of International Folk Art director Charlene Cerny, and community philanthropist Charmay Allred to try something that had not really been done at this scale before: bring folk artists from around the world to Santa Fe and let them sell their own work, directly, keeping nearly all of the proceeds.
