Sequim Lavender Festival in Sequim
The Sequim Lavender Festival is a mid-July celebration in Sequim, Washington, a town nicknamed the Lavender Capital of North America for its unusually dry microclimate suited to commercial lavender growing. Organized around the Sequim Lavender Growers Association, the festival combines a downtown street fair with self-guided farm tours across the surrounding Dungeness Valley, letting visitors walk U-cut lavender fields at multiple participating farms.
Sequim's lavender industry grew out of a specific geographic advantage: the town sits in the rain shadow of the Olympic Mountains, which block much of the moisture that soaks the rest of the Pacific Northwest, giving Sequim an unusually dry, sunny microclimate more typical of Mediterranean lavender-growing regions than the notoriously wet Puget Sound area around it.
