Mount Marathon Race in Seward
The Mount Marathon Race is a punishing 3.1-mile mountain race run every Fourth of July through downtown Seward, Alaska, sending racers straight up and back down the mountain that looms over the harbor. Believed to date to 1915, it ranks among the oldest organized footraces in the United States and remains capped near 350 men and 350 women plus junior divisions to limit trail damage.
No one can pin down the exact year the Mount Marathon Race began.
