The Seward Silver Salmon Derby is a saltwater fishing tournament that has run since 1956, making it Alaska's second-oldest fishing derby after Valdez. Held over roughly two weeks starting the second week of August, anglers compete to land the largest coho, or silver, salmon in Resurrection Bay, with daily weigh-ins and a roster of prize categories beyond the top fish.

Alaska's fishing derbies grew out of a simple civic instinct: give a coastal fishing town a reason to fill its harbor and its restaurants during the height of salmon season.
