The story

Sisters Folk Festival in Sisters

The Sisters Folk Festival is a three-day roots-music festival held the weekend after Labor Day across seven intimate venues in Sisters, Oregon, founded in 1995 by Jim Cornelius and Dick Sandvik and featuring more than 30 folk, Americana, bluegrass and global-roots artists in close-quarters settings.

Jim Cornelius and Dick Sandvik started the Sisters Folk Festival in 1995 with a specific vision: bring high-caliber folk, Americana and roots musicians to a small Central Oregon mountain town and let them perform in spaces intimate enough that the audience and artist could genuinely connect, rather than building toward the scale of a big-field festival.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Rather than a single large stage, the festival spreads more than 30 artists across seven venues scattered through the small mountain town of Sisters, including a historic church and restaurant courtyards, giving performances an intimacy closer to a house concert than a typical festival set

02

The mystery stays covered

Founded in 1995 by Jim Cornelius and Dick Sandvik, it now anchors a year-round nonprofit, SFF Presents, that also runs the Americana Song Academy, a creative camp where visiting artists arrive early to teach songwriting and performance to students alongside the main festival weekend
