The story

Sisters Rodeo in Sisters

Known as the Biggest Little Show in the World, Sisters Rodeo is a community-owned, volunteer-run PRCA rodeo running since 1940 in mid-June, pairing top-ranked professional bronc riding, bull riding, barrel racing and steer wrestling with the hospitality and warmth of a small Central Oregon mountain town.

Sisters Rodeo began in 1940 when a group of local couples pooled ten thousand dollars, a substantial sum for a small Central Oregon ranching town at the time, to fund a rodeo with prize purses ambitious enough to rival the two most prestigious rodeos in the country, the Pendleton Round-Up and Wyoming's Cheyenne Frontier Days.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

The rodeo's nickname comes directly from its origin story: in 1940, local couples pooled ten thousand dollars to fund a rodeo offering purses matching those at the Pendleton Round-Up and the Cheyenne Frontier Days, an ambitious sum for a town as small as Sisters

02

The mystery stays covered

Cowboys impressed that such a tiny community could offer prize money on that scale nicknamed it the Biggest Little Show in the World, and the name stuck for eight decades

03

The city starts moving

The rodeo has remained community-owned and volunteer-driven ever since, and it still draws top-ranked PRCA competitors for a large prize purse despite the small-town setting, an unusual combination of big-money competition and genuinely local, nonprofit organization
