International Carillon Festival in Springfield
International Carillon Festival gathers visiting carillonneurs at the 132-foot Thomas Rees Memorial Carillon in Washington Park, where 67 cast-bronze bells have rung out over Springfield since 1962. Evening audiences spread blankets on the grass rather than sit in a formal concert hall, watching concert monitors that show the keyboard being played live while food trucks and band music fill the breaks.
You walk into the park with people carrying folding chairs and picnic blankets, and the sound is already rolling out across the grass in bright, heavy waves.
