The story

Wings Over the Prairie Festival in Stuttgart

Wings Over the Prairie Festival transforms six blocks of downtown Stuttgart into the largest outdoor expo in the Mid-South every Thanksgiving weekend, anchored by the World's Championship Duck Calling Contest. Dating to 1936, the festival adds a carnival and midway, a 5K/10K Duck Race, the World's Championship Duck Gumbo Cookoff, and a free Party in the Park concert.

Stuttgart calls itself the Rice and Duck Capital of the World, and the Wings Over the Prairie Festival is built to prove both halves of that claim at once.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

What sets this festival apart is its scale relative to a town of Stuttgart's size: a community of roughly 9,000 people hosts an event billed as the largest outdoor expo in the Mid-South, drawing visitors from across the country and internationally for a Thanksgiving weekend built entirely around duck-hunting culture

02

The mystery stays covered

Beyond the headline calling contest, the festival layers in its own distinct competitions, including a Duck Gumbo Cookoff judged for the best regional take on the dish, and a timed 5K/10K Duck Race, giving visitors sport, food, and music options beyond the marquee event happening on the same downtown blocks
