Flowertown Festival in Summerville
Flowertown Festival is a three-day arts and crafts festival held each April at Azalea Park in downtown Summerville, South Carolina, organized as the Summerville Family YMCA's largest annual fundraiser. Built around the park's blooming azaleas and dating in spirit to a 1941 Azalea Festival, the modern event draws roughly 200,000 visitors and ranks among the top festivals in the Southeast.
During the Great Depression, Summerville's mayor, Grange Cuthbert, imagined a park filled with flowering azaleas as a way to draw tourists and revenue to his struggling South Carolina town.
