The Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10 Mile is a spring road race through Washington DC timed to peak cherry blossom bloom around the Tidal Basin. Founded in 1973 as a Boston Marathon tune-up race, it now includes a 5K and kids run, raises funds for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, and is nicknamed the Runner's Rite of Spring.

In 1973, Gar Williams, then president of the DC Road Runners Club, and Ralph Reynolds, program director at DC's Central YMCA, set out to create a race that would help serious runners prepare for the Boston Marathon without overtaxing them a month before race day.
