Webster County Woodchopping Festival in Webster Springs
The Webster County Woodchopping Festival in Webster Springs was founded in 1960 by champion lumberjack Arden Cogar Sr. Axe chopping, crosscut or power-saw classes and springboard events bring regional and international competitors into a program rooted in timber skills. The recurring practices—championship axe chopping, crosscut and power-saw contests, and springboard chopping on Baker’s Island—tie the public program to the place and the people who sustain it.
An axe lands in a practiced notch on Baker's Island, chips fly in a bright arc and another competitor climbs a springboard cut into the standing pole.
