MerleFest is a four-day roots-music festival held the last weekend of April on the campus of Wilkes Community College in Wilkesboro, North Carolina. Founded in 1988 by Doc Watson in memory of his son, Eddy Merle Watson, it spreads bluegrass, old-time, folk, blues, and Americana performances across roughly a dozen stages, drawing crowds beyond 75,000 and standing as the college's primary fundraising event and one of the largest music festivals in the country.
