People's Festival Tribute to Bob Marley in Wilmington
People's Festival 4Peace: Tribute to Bob Marley has honored the reggae icon's personal ties to Wilmington every summer since 1995, when his mother, Cedella Booker, asked local friends to organize a concert in his memory. Held at Tubman-Garrett Riverfront Park, the festival features reggae, world-music, and gospel acts, a drum circle, international food vendors, and arts and crafts booths.
Before Bob Marley became one of the most recognized musicians in the world, he spent stretches of the late 1960s and early 1970s in Wilmington, Delaware, working day-shift jobs at a DuPont plant and a Chrysler plant between recording sessions in Jamaica.
