Noche de la Nostalgia in Nationwide
Noche de la Nostalgia is a nationwide Uruguayan celebration held every August 24, the eve of Independence Day, when nightclubs and discotecas across the country play exclusively oldies music from past decades. Originated in 1978 by radio entrepreneur Pablo Lecueder to promote a radio program, it became an officially recognized national tradition under law 17,825 in 2004.
On August 24, 1978, a radio entrepreneur named Pablo Lecueder threw a party at a discoteca called Ton Ton Metek, located near the Puente Carrasco on the outskirts of Montevideo.
