Surkhandarya Folklore Festival in Termez/Boysun

The Surkhandarya Folklore Festival, known locally as Boysun Bahori or Boysun Spring, gathers folk ensembles, artisans and wrestlers in the mountain village of Padang near Boysun in Surkhandarya region. Held in the first ten days of May, it grew out of a 2001 UNESCO listing of Boysun's oral and intangible heritage and centers on alla lullabies, ulan and lapar sung duels, ritual dances, and kurash wrestling bouts.

In a valley enclosed by the Boysuntov mountains of southern Uzbekistan, villagers in and around Boysun kept alive a layer of pre-Islamic ritual, sung poetry and craft that had faded elsewhere along the Silk Road.
