Naghol Land Diving in Ratap/Pentecost

Naghol land diving is the Sa-language ritual, known locally as Gol or Nanggol, in which men leap from wooden towers up to 30 meters tall with only forest vines tied to their ankles, performed on southern Pentecost Island and staged for visitors at Ratap Kastom Village. It is the acknowledged ancestor of modern bungee jumping.

On the southern end of Pentecost Island, in Vanuatu's Penama province, a wooden tower rises out of the jungle each dry season, and by the time it is finished, it will be tall enough that a fall from its highest platform could easily kill an unprepared climber.
