The story

Festival de Rock de Caracas in Caracas

Festival de Rock de Caracas traces its roots to Venezuela's earliest rock gatherings, beginning with the First Rock Festival of Venezuela on June 13, 1970, at Parque del Este, and the follow-up Ishtar festival that August at the Nuevo Circo. Large-scale rock concerts in the capital continued through later decades.

On June 13, 1970, promoter Cappy Donzella brought thousands of Caracas youth together in the old Parque del Este for what became known as the First Rock Festival of Venezuela, sometimes remembered as the Festival of Flowers.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

What sets this festival apart is its place at the origin point of Venezuelan rock history: June 13 was later declared National Rock Day in Venezuela in tribute to the pioneers of that first 1970 gathering, organized by promoter Cappy Donzella

02

The mystery stays covered

Rather than one fixed recurring edition, Caracas rock festivals have taken different forms across decades, from the Parque del Este and Nuevo Circo shows of 1970 to the five-night 1991 Iberoamerican Rock Festival in El Cafetal that brought Soda Stereo, Fito Paez, and Los Prisioneros onto shared bills with homegrown acts like Desorden Publico and Zapato 3, cementing Caracas as a regional rock touchpoint
