Festival de San Juan de Patanemo in Patanemo
The Fiesta de San Juan Bautista de Patanemo takes place each June 24 in the coastal fishing village of Patanemo, Carabobo state, opening on the evening of June 23 at the Nuestra Senora del Socorro church. The celebration blends drum rhythms, an all-night procession, and Afro-descendant memory in a tradition local devotees call sanjuaneros or promeseros.
Patanemo is a small fishing village tucked into a scenic bay on Venezuela's Carabobo coast, a place best known among travelers for its beaches but known among Venezuelans for something else: one of the country's most fervently observed celebrations of Saint John the Baptist.
