Kwanga Ceremony in Samfya

The Kwanga Ceremony is an October gathering of the Ngumbo, Unga, Chishinga and Mukulu peoples, held on the shores of Lake Chifunabuli at Samfya in Zambia's Luapula Province under Senior Chief Mwewa. Once banned by the colonial government over fears it could fuel resistance, it now draws attendees from Zambia and across the border in the DRC.

Every October, members of the Ngumbo, Unga, Chishinga and Mukulu peoples gather on the shores of Lake Chifunabuli at Samfya, in Zambia's Luapula Province, for the Kwanga Traditional Ceremony, an event that draws not only Zambians but relatives and tribal representatives from across the border in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
