Samfya Beach Festival in Samfya
The Samfya Beach Festival is a contemporary music and lakeside gathering on Samfya's white-sand shoreline of Lake Bangweulu in Luapula Province, promoted by local venues such as Bangweulu Beachfront Village. It sits alongside, but appears distinct from, the area's older October Kwanga Ceremony of the Ngumbo people, which is also held on the same lakeshore.
Samfya's identity as a destination rests on a specific geographic feature: it sits on the south-western shore of Lake Bangweulu, on the longest stretch of clearly defined shoreline around a lake whose other margins are mostly marshy, giving the town access to what local sources describe as roughly a hundred kilometres of white sand, the whitest beach in Zambia.
