Chibwelamushi Lala Ceremony in Serenje
Chibwelamushi, officially recorded as Icibwela Mushi and meaning return to the village, is a Bisa, Swaka and Lala harvest ceremony held each September in Zambia's Central Province; Zambia's government lists its home district as Mkushi rather than Serenje, though both districts sit within the wider Lala homeland.
The Lala people trace their origins, like many groups in this part of south-central Africa, to the Luba-Lunda kingdoms of what is now the Democratic Republic of Congo, settling over succeeding generations in the district that still bears their association today, centred on Serenje in Zambia's Central Province.
